The capsule, which launched on 29th May, is inspired by John Reid — the former director andex-boyfriend of Elton John. Reid is portrayed in the film by Richard Madden.

Sam Kershaw of MR PORTER details the alleviation behind the collection, noting the influence that the 1970s period played. For the capsule, bold patterns and bright colours were forcefully at the van. Our Creative Director, Becky French, said, “ It was such a fun detail to work on. To be suitable to be bold, sportful and eccentric with this design and not having to suppose about it being marketable or too safe. Elton John and the characters girding him celebrate style and music with confidence. ”

MR PORTER approached us to do a limited run of ties, shirts and a fund forecourt to celebrate the launch of the film. We were transferred prints of the ties, after which we asked our silk shop to claw into its libraries to find analogous patterns that we couldre-work andre-colour, therefore recreating the original ties as nearly as possible. “ It was a great process and the shop really came up with the goods – performing in some wonderfully beautiful designs. “ said French.

“ For the shirts, we used bold stripes woven in Italy and nominated them with a white long point collar which we originally developed for our Evening Shirt Collection last time, to capture the quaint ‘ 70s theme. The name for this collection was the light blue shirt with an exaggerated paisley placket. The embroidery was drawn and artworked by our developer, Lizzie Sutherland, and also realised by London knitters Hand & Lock. Subtle choices of thread and layout proportion means this is a veritably accurate representation of what you see in the film.”
